Porsche Fits the 2012 911 With Seven-Speed Manual Transmission

In 2011, Porsche gave its iconic 911 the option of coming equipped with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. While both choices offer an incredible driving experience, we here at Knopf Automotive must say that there is something about the emotional link between man and machine, seen in the manual transmission, that takes driving the Porsche 911 to a new level of excitement.

Apparently, we aren't alone in this sentiment either. Many drivers know that when it comes to incredible sports cars, nothing can beat the pure excitement that interacting with a manual transmission offers. As such, the German automaker has opted to include a new seven-speed manual transmission in the 2012 model of the ever-popular Porsche 911.

You can take the 911 for a test drive here at 3401 Lehigh St Allentown, PA 18103, and see for yourself why so many drivers are amazed by the sense of freedom that the new manual transmission has to offer. Test drives can be arranged on the 911, or any other new Porsche model simply by either dialing (888) 437-9168 or by sending in a contact form online.

It may seem obvious, but we still feel it is worth mentioning that the new seven-speed manual transmission, which is fitted in the 2012 Porsche 911, shortens the distances between the first six gears with the push to seven being increasingly wide. The mapping of gear is almost identical to what was seen in the optional PDK automatic transmission in the 2011 model, and it ultimately serves as more of a six-speed with seventh-gear overdrive. Can it get better than that?

According to the great minds at Porsche, there are a number of reasons as to why they chose to endow the 2012 Porsche 911 with this new manual transmission. The first is that it promises to deliver drivers even more of the legendary performance that is promised in the 911 name. And, the second reason is that it can allow for greater fuel economy. In other words: This decision is a win-win for drivers.
